115th birth anniversary of Stanisław Mielech

On 29th April we celebrated the 115th birth anniversary of Stanisław Mielech, creator of Warsaw club's name. This name should have referred to the legions of Marshall Józef Piłsudski. Mielech was also one of the persons who founded our club. Moreover, in the years 1923-27 he was one of its players. He even managed to play in a one league game. He was also journalist of some magazines, e.g. "Stadjon", "Przegląd Sportowy", "Raz, dwa, trzy" and "Życie Warszawy".
Besides he wrote some books, e.g. "Styles, schools and systems of football" or "Goals, fouls and offsides". He also wrote the history of Legia from its beginning to the year 1939. This can be found in a special book published in 1966 for the 50th anniversary of Warsaw club. Mielech died on 17th November 1962. He was buried in the Powązki Cemetery.
